Telling does not equal teaching. It is like me saying to you: writing a book is easy. You just write, and write, and write some more, and then you are done. All of his videos are like that.

Yeah…top hand should be “in the pocket.” Maybe that’s an exaggeration, maybe he’s exaggerating to prove a point. But he should have used that expression. Your top hand should be in the pocket. The best players do this unless they are doing something specific or pushing the puck ahead with a full head of steam. Then it might pop out more.
Lmk if you ever do this in NYC or even Jersey!!

I'm 40 and learning a lot from these iTrain videos since my friends signed me up for ice hockey last year (only did pick-up roller hockey 25 years ago).

Yes short choppy strides are the way to go 😂
Snap shot that, don’t wind up with the wrist shot, much better and easier to actually shoot accurately in stride with a snap shot. Also gives you more options than breaking stride to wind up.
Not for the kids and their weaker strength/balance at that age. Teach for them.

Now one thing is to spend tons of time and showing stuff while everyone is sitting or standing or kneeling and trying to absorb the information they won't be able to completely process, and it's another thing to have them do it and correct each them on the fly while they're doing it. The second method is much more effective but it requires the Coach to be totally involved with each player as each player will do something right and something not right in his own way. Another thing that I don't agree with Coaching at youth level is the sweatpants outfit. It's a huge mistake for any Coach not to skate in full gear because I can guarrantee 1,000 percent that the same Coach would skate diametrically different in his full grar and, the boys actually have MUCH better visual reference to learn from. I employed both of these super important elements in my Coaching years, and it had consistently tremendous results on ANY level. I encountered many nay-sayers who always argued some nonsense towards those two critical coaching attitudes but my results were always much faster and much better than those who were just too lazy to get in the gear or dedicate their time to each player on the fly. You simply get 100 percent involved out there and I simply know inly of one Coach orher than me who worked like that with his teams (but he never skated ij his gear, either). When I got myself to the point where I pretty much mastered my style of coaching, each of my boys skated exactly 1/3 of the time we had slotted for practice, which is 1:2 work/rest ratio required with 3 full lines. I challenge anyone out there to honestly show me his boys actually skate (and learn while skating) that much in his practice. In addition, I always tried to choose a player for a demonstration of certain type of skill because there always was somebody who was better or even way better at that skill than others. That creates great motivation for others as they see it as a peer challenge. With the Coach performing this or that, it's not as motivating as when their teammate can do it. You only demonstrate the particular skill when it is something very new for any of them. It's NOT about what you do when you coach, its about HOW you do it.
